We take up residence at the exquisite Chateau Dumas for one week this summer to bring you a wonderful course which will teach the skills you need to create impressive flower arrangements that look effortless, elegant and natural.

Beginning with the foundations of floral design, you’ll learn both practical and artistic skills for dealing with flowers and foliage from wiring a simple flower stem to the construction of extravagant table arrangements. Even the most naturalistic designs have an underlying order and you’ll learn the rules of form and structure alongside other techniques.

Using a wide array of cut fresh flowers and natural materials foraged from the Chateau gardens, you’ll create garlands and bowers with spellbinding touches.  You’ll learn how to make flower crowns, corsages and boutonnières as well as how to fabricate charming props such as angels and flower fairies using twisted wire, dried flowers, twigs and hydrangea leaves.

On one evening Chateau Dumas set the stage for a memorable dinner outdoors to celebrate the summer solstice. The dinner table will be decked with floral garlands and we’ll wear our flower crowns.   On the last day of the workshop Chateau Dumas will arrange a visit to the monthly antique market in Toulouse where you’ll have the chance to hunt for vintage vases and vessels and anything else that catches your eye.

You’ll love this workshop and leave with a thorough understanding and appreciation of floral design and the confidence to create your own breathtaking floral arrangements at home.   Also included in the week are a visit to the atmospheric Sunday morning food and farmer's market in medieval St Antonin-Noble-Val and a visit to the nearby hilltop village of Montpezat-de-Quercy.
