floral retreat: The Art of Flowers at belcombe court, Bradford-on-Avon
Friday 4th - Saturday 5th october 2019
Escape with the JamJar team and embark on a two day floral retreat at the magnificent Belcombe Court, a stunning Grade I listed Georgian house situated in Bradford-on-Avon, six miles from Bath in Wiltshire. Over this two day retreat, we will explore The Art of Flowers, creating free flowing floral sculptures without the use of floral foam. We have curated a stimulating programme of workshops to both inspire and challenge your creative senses. Fill your arms with exquisite seasonal flowers and foraged foliage and take time to create some truly stunning floral pieces under the expert guidance of JamJar. From elaborate centrepieces to large scale floral art pieces, we will take our lead from the beauty of the house, the cutting garden and surrounding landscape.
The house was originally built in 1734 by John Wood the Elder, who was known for designing many of the finest buildings in Bath. Inside, the house is a blend of the classic and the contemporary, decorated by the current owners, Paul & Caroline Weiland, with an eclectic mix of antique and modern furnishings. The garden is registered by English Heritage as being of special historic interest. Developed in the 18th Century in neo-classical ‘Picturesque’ style, the gardens and parkland contain the original features of a grotto, rotunda and a ruined ‘temple’, constructed during the same period as those at Stourhead. The four acres of landscaped gardens include lawns, an ornamental pond with Koi carp, box and yew topiary and fine specimen trees. Modern touches have been sympathetically introduced, with carefully placed sculptures, infinity pool and terrace, tennis court, a beautifully converted church barn, six acres of woodland walks, a shell house and walled garden incorporating roses, grasses and fruit, with views extending across the valley. The 45 acres of Parkland are visited by an abundance of wildlife and are grazed by Hebridean sheep.
Explore this beautiful estate where, through garden walks and floral workshops, we will immerse ourselves in the glories of nature. Breathe clean air away from the stresses of screen and city, and come with us on a journey of exploration.
This course is suitable for both professional florists with a desire to learn about the art of creating big sculptural pieces without the use of floral foam; but also, simply for people who love flowers and would like to expand their knowledge and skills.
